MESMES

On-premises (and IaaS-hostable) MES/MOM platform from Dassault Systèmes standardising production, quality, warehouse, maintenance, and labour execution across multi-site manufacturing networks, built on a configurable Process Builder / FlexNet engine with tight coupling to the 3DEXPERIENCE PLM stack.

DELMIA Apriso entered Dassault Systèmes' portfolio through the July 2013 acquisition of Apriso Corporation (Long Beach, CA; operating since 2003 on a Microsoft .NET platform called FlexNet). Dassault positions Apriso as "all the core functionality required in a traditional MES, in addition to the expanded MOM capabilities including integrated quality, material synchronization, and maintenance." At acquisition Apriso was reported to serve "nearly 200 customers in 45+ countries". Logos are heavily weighted to automotive, aerospace & defense, consumer goods, and tobacco (General Motors, Lear, Lockheed Martin, Bombardier, Cummins, L'Oréal, Saint-Gobain, Philip Morris International, British American Tobacco, Japan Tobacco), with Becton Dickinson and Trixell as medical-device names.

There is no separately branded "DELMIA Apriso for Life Sciences" product variant. The Life Sciences & Healthcare positioning sits at the brand (DELMIA) level — not at the Apriso product level — and bundles Apriso with DELMIA Quintiq, Ortems, and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform under a single industry-solutions umbrella. Dassault ships configurable "preconfigured solutions" / "project accelerators" listed in product documentation, plus a generic 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance Implementation Guide. Pharma fit is therefore configuration-led, not template-led.

Core modules include Production, Quality Control, Maintenance, Warehouse, Time & Labor, Analytics & Reporting, and System Integration. The Center of Excellence / Global Process Manager (GPM) and Process Builder modules enable enterprise-wide standardisation without coding. Apriso is recognised by Gartner, ABI, and IDC. In Gartner's most recent (April 2023) Magic Quadrant for MES it sits in the Challengers quadrant.

Apriso can be configured to meet 21 CFR Part 11 expectations using Dassault's published implementation guide. It does not ship validated EBR/MBR templates, weigh-and-dispense workflows, or ISA-88 recipe content out of the box.

Key Features & Capabilities

Core Capabilities

Production module: order dispatch, work-instruction execution, just-in-sequence assembly, RFID/barcode-driven asset/part identification, real-time KPI capture

Technical Specifications

Primarily on-premises with cloud-IaaS hosting permitted. Per Dassault VAR GoEngineer: "DELMIA Apriso primarily an on-premise solution. It is not a SaaS product, but it can be hosted in a cloud IaaS environment." 3DEXPERIENCE DELMIA roles plug Apriso into the cloud platform on AWS and Dassault's own OUTSCALE cloud (Huawei Cloud referenced for China). Azure has been discussed but not confirmed. Whether 3DEXPERIENCE Apriso workloads run multi-tenant or single-tenant is undisclosed.

Database/OS stack: Microsoft Windows Server + Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle (2021 Install Guide details both paths). Browser-based access via 3DEXPERIENCE web client. Mobile device support is cited at marketing level. Named-user term licensing is tied to email address for 3DEXPERIENCE roles. Whether SSO supports SAML, OIDC, AzureAD, or Okta is undisclosed; SSO is commonly handled via 3DPassport. REST and web-services integration run via Apriso's System Integration module, with historical SAP, Oracle, and OSIsoft connectors. OPC UA is the dedicated shop-floor integration technology. ISA-95 alignment is explicit. ISA-88 batch recipe model and B2MML are not explicitly cited.

Pricing Information

No public price list is published. Pricing is provided through direct engagement. Licensing is subscription-based, configured around named-user term licences when consumed via 3DEXPERIENCE roles (annual or quarterly terms; roles reassignable every 30 days). For stand-alone Apriso, a tiered model based on concurrent users plus module bundles is reported, with "starter packs for a fixed price" for small-to-mid-sized facilities and enterprise tiers for multi-site (vendor-reported, not independently verified).

Demo is available on request via the "Contact us" / "How to Buy" funnel. No public free trial is offered. Industry-typical MES deal sizes for the segment are reported at $150K+ for single-site and $1M+ for multi-site enterprise; these are general industry norms, not figures Dassault discloses for Apriso. Minimum commitments, setup fees, and validation-support fees are not publicly published.

Implementation Details

Dassault and partners do not publish a pharma-specific timeline. Third-party reviews indicate a "BPA Apriso pre-configured solution" can be implemented in under 12 weeks for scoped use cases. Fuller multi-site, multi-module rollouts are typically measured in 1–3 years. Directional norms are 6–12 months+ for mid-cap pharma single-site and 24–36 months+ per site wave for top-20 global rollouts. Implementation, validation support, training, and change management are priced separately, typically via Dassault Consulting Services or partner SIs.

Apriso implementations rely on a small ecosystem of certified SI partners — Andea (US/Europe; SOC 2 Type II at the partner-practice level), Inceptra, TECHNIA — supplemented by global SIs (Accenture, Capgemini, HP, IBM). Pharma-specialist SIs for Apriso are not prominently named in Dassault's public list. Common pitfalls per analysts/reviewers: heavy customization burden ("essentially custom software"), server-side complexity, 3DEXPERIENCE-version maturity gaps, and Gartner's published warning that the team must "continue to evolve the architecture of its on-premises, highly configurable platform."

Strengths & Limitations

PharmaSpotter assessment from published vendor and third-party sources. No user reviews are on file for this product.

Strengths

Users describe Apriso as a stable, mature MES suited to complex multi-site, multi-station discrete manufacturing. Direct quotes: "very stable and robust as soon as you stay on Microsoft technologies, especially MS SQL Server"; "The solution is flexible and provides a wealth of information from the standard system we implemented from the start. Customization effort is minimal. The connection to third-party systems, i.e. SAP and MIS systems, also works well." Autoliv customer reference cites "better access to traceability data and batch tracing at the line … integrated, real-time information flow. Reaction time has been cut short very much." Strengths most commonly cited: configurability, real-time visibility, and multi-site standardization via GPM.

Limitations & Open Questions

Users repeatedly flag implementation effort, infrastructure complexity, customization required, and price. Direct quotes: "I have had some issues during the implementation and the customization needed to fit business requirement… required effort is significant"; "License model could be very expensive"; "Learning the backend code, access to it and frequent bugs is the major bottle neck. Also the level of infrastructure and architecture required at the server end is more cumbersome"; "DELMIA Apriso is essentially custom software. While theoretically everything can be done with the system, however, this approach may not align with customer requirements in terms of time and budget." Gartner has published a warning that the team must "continue to evolve the architecture of its on-premises, highly configurable" platform.
