Regulatory SubmissionRegulatory Submission

An on-premise-or-cloud (AWS) electronic submission management system that compiles, publishes, validates, and reviews eCTD and other regulatory dossier formats. The same engine is used both by sponsors and by ~19 regulatory authorities, including the US FDA (CDER/CBER), for submission review and validation.

LORENZ docuBridge (vendor styles it "docuBridge") is from LORENZ Life Sciences Group (lorenz.cc), founded in 1989 by Wolfgang Witzel in Frankfurt, Germany. It is a privately held, founder-associated company with ~116 employees as of July 2024 (Tracxn), and Raoul-A. Lorenz has been CEO since 2006. LORENZ co-developed early electronic-submission standards (DAMOS) and supplied software to German regulator BfArM. docuBridge was introduced around 2000 and, per LORENZ history, BfArM had deployed it as its official eSubmissions workstation by 2002. One secondary source states LORENZ is "now part of Honeywell"; PitchBook, Tracxn, and The Org instead list LORENZ as independently owned and founder-associated, and the Honeywell claim is unverified and likely erroneous.

Functionally, docuBridge assembles a submission "sequence" with documents, metadata, and links, then publishes multiple output formats (eCTD, (V)NeeS, HTML, PDF, paper) from a single source sequence. It automates XML backbone generation, table-of-contents creation, hyperlinking/bookmarking, and lifecycle operations (new/replace/append/delete across sequences). Regulatory specification updates are delivered without re-installing the software, and LORENZ ships two major releases per year (April and October). It is sold in three editions — ONE (single user, one region, pay-per-submission tokens), TWO (2–3 users, up to two regions, built-in eValidator), and FIVE (5+ users, modular, multi-region, optional regulatory DMS) — plus a browser-based webAccess app.

docuBridge is a publishing and review engine within a broader Regulatory Information Management ecosystem. It is not a QMS, LIMS, or full document-management system: it provides only basic check-in/check-out and relies on integration with external document-management systems (Veeva Vault, OpenText Documentum, Generis CARA, Egnyte, SharePoint, GLAMS) for authoring and controlled content. The vendor reports over 2,000 paid installations across 48 countries and 19 regulatory authorities as of 2026, up from ~180 in 2010, ~650 in 2016, and ~1,700 in 2023. LORENZ won the FDA's submission review/validation tenders in 2016 and again in 2017, with CDER/CBER go-live in November 2020.

Key Features & Capabilities

Core Capabilities

eCTD compilation & multi-format publishing — publish eCTD, (V)NeeS, HTML, PDF, and paper from a single source sequence; automated XML backbone and table-of-contents generation.
Lifecycle management — manage current/revised versions of sequences, organize by regulatory activity, and replicate content files, hyperlinks, and node properties from a source sequence to lifecycle sequences in target applications (applicable to parallel US/EU filings).
Hyperlinking/bookmarking automation — automated hyperlink and bookmark handling; preservation of leaf titles across sequences.
eCTD validation (LORENZ eValidator) — built-in in TWO and FIVE; free eValidator Basic add-on for ONE. Validates against current and previous official regional criteria with configurable severity profiles; stores validation history; simulates agency gateway checks. eValidator validates 35+ regional eCTD/NeeS profiles (FDA, EMA, Health Canada, Swissmedic, NMPA, TGA, MFDS, SAHPRA, WHO PQT, GCC, etc.).
Viewing & review — submission viewing and lifecycle-context review; the webAccess browser app (v25.1+, Chrome/Edge) provides sharing/viewing/reviewing with feature parity to the desktop client; a "review only" package exists for organizations that do not publish in docuBridge.
Dossier compilation — auto-compilation pane in the Submission Workbench drops documents compiled automatically based on metadata (requires good document-attribute quality).
Granular vs document-level publishing — concurrent editing of different leaves with conflict detection; document-level and leaf-level operations.
Multi-region eCTD support — broad regional profile coverage; v25.2 reportedly added full eCTD v4.0 EU compilation/publishing plus forward compatibility.
Deployment flexibility — on-premise or cloud (LORENZ Cloud on AWS, or a customer's third-party cloud); all installations share the same software code.
Integrations — connectors/interfaces to Veeva Vault, OpenText Documentum, Generis CARA, Egnyte (v24.1+), SharePoint Online/Server 2019, GLAMS, MasterControl; DocShifter as conversion engine; LORENZ Automator for signing and FDA ESG / EMA CESP / Health Canada gateway transmission; drugTrack for IDMP/marketing-authorization linkage.
AI — LORENZ verifAI (launched 2025) is a separate generative-AI regulatory content validator (verifAI for Authors in MS Word; verifAI for RegOps connected to docuBridge).

Deployment is on-premise, LORENZ Cloud (AWS), or a customer's own third-party cloud, with hybrid possible. The cloud provider is AWS; Azure is not stated. LORENZ Cloud uses AWS with FIPS 140-2-validated KMS hardware security modules for key management, a per-customer separate AWS master account, encrypted connections, and backup/disaster-recovery. Data residency is not guaranteed beyond general AWS "geo-availability." The corporate LORENZ webserver/portal is hosted in the US by LORENZ International LLC, distinct from the product cloud.

Access is via a traditional Windows desktop client plus the webAccess browser app (Chrome/Edge). It runs on Microsoft Windows and historically requires Adobe Acrobat and SQL Server or Oracle. SSO (SAML/OIDC) and mobile support are unstated; users report the mobile UI "needs some improvement." Documented connectors include Veeva Vault, Documentum, Egnyte, SharePoint, MasterControl, GLAMS, and CARA. LORENZ states it supports 9 DMS systems across 22 versions. No public REST API specification is published. Data standards include eCTD v3.2 (regional), (V)NeeS, NeeS, AMNOG, HTML, PDF, and paper; eCTD v4.0 (ICH) compilation/publishing was reported in v25.2 (EU) with forward compatibility; ICH M2/M4 structure is inherent to eCTD; IDMP metadata is available via drugTrack integration. At the FDA, all 1.2 million legacy sequences were migrated into docuBridge, with incoming sequences since adding up to 1.5 million.

Pricing Information

docuBridge ONE lists at ~$2,950 net per region in the LORENZ online store, a one-time license that "includes one e-submission token, one training token, and one support token." This is the only publicly transparent price point: FIVE/enterprise, validation, and implementation pricing require a direct quote. TWO and FIVE use per-user/per-environment/per-module licensing with optional annual support, and larger installations may use annual licenses or subscriptions.

Reported figures: eValidator ONE ~$290/year; eSubmission token packs, for example 10 tokens ~$1,700 and 20 tokens ~$2,900; live-support consultation ~$230/issue; eValidator Basic is free. A demo of docuBridge is available. A free full docuBridge trial is not clearly advertised, though eValidator Basic is a free, downloadable single-region/single-format validator. Deal sizes by segment, minimums, and setup/validation fees for TWO/FIVE/agency projects are undisclosed and negotiated.

Implementation Details

docuBridge ONE is effectively self-service, "up and running in seconds" after purchase via LORENZ ID. TWO is a standardized install. FIVE is a configured, modular enterprise project, often turnkey for agencies, with timeline driven by configuration, number of regional setups, DMS integrations, and validation scope. Vendor-confirmed timelines by organization size are not published. Technical support is included with ONE; functional support is purchased via support tokens, with live-support consultation reported at ~$230 per issue. Implementation, validation, migration, configuration, and training are services. Training is delivered online, at LORENZ facilities, on-site, via webinars, and via eLearning modules, with eLearning included in ONE.

LORENZ has offered eCTD library migration since at least 2009, explicitly supporting moves from ISI eCTDeXpress, Liquent CoreDossier/InSight Publisher, and EXTEDO eCTDmanager. docuBridge can check in an existing eCTD with all lifecycle sequences and act as an aggregator of content from multiple systems. The FDA migrated 1.2 million legacy sequences into docuBridge, reportedly within 16 days per a secondary source. Auto-compilation requires high-quality document metadata and proper configuration. Reliance on an external DMS for authoring makes integration scope a project risk. Two major releases per year create a recurring re-validation burden. Windows, Acrobat, and SQL Server or Oracle dependencies add IT footprint for on-premise deployments.

Strengths & Limitations

PharmaSpotter assessment from published vendor and third-party sources. No user reviews are on file for this product.

Strengths

Users report docuBridge is flexible and easy to use, integrates well to build a seamless workflow, supports real-time team collaboration, and can be accessed from any location. Independent comparison write-ups describe docuBridge as "celebrated for technical depth," with "unmatched format flexibility" and "strong regional rules" with configurable defect reports.

Limitations & Open Questions

Users report the mobile/handheld user interface "needs some improvement." Broader analyst commentary notes docuBridge is a "high-touch" tool that relies on an external DMS for authoring and offers only basic check-in/check-out, and that two major releases per year impose ongoing validation work. Public review volume is thin.
